Interview with PDN Magazine

I’m honored to have been interviewed by PDN Magazine’s tech editor, Greg Scoblete, for this month’s issue available on newsstands nationwide. You can read the article here. After the interview, I did further research into Facebook’s history of data abuse and rights-grabbing practices and joined the million-plus world citizens that have deactivated their Facebook and Instagram accounts to stand up for human rights and artist rights. I’m still happily posting about my work and life on more artist-friendly, privacy-conscious social media platforms, though. Please make sure to follow me on Ello, VSCO, and Behance.

Joshua Tree
Joshua-Tree.jpg

Having spent several weeks alone in the Mojave Desert a little less than a year ago, exploring and wandering and becoming closer to that region of America than any other I’ve visited, I cannot understand the destruction that has taken place in Joshua Tree National Park over the last several weeks during the government shutdown here in the United States.

The idea that anyone would feel comfortable chopping down such rare and iconic trees to clear a path for their vehicles is unconscionable. The way humans sometimes behave when they believe no one will hold them accountable is beyond my grasp. For now, I am heartbroken for Joshua Tree — but I plan to return to the desert soon to document the aftermath of the darker realities of human nature and the beautiful resilience of the American desert. It has taught me so much about life itself.

Saatchi + The Mojave
Mojave No. 1 print for sale through Saatchi

I’m pleased to announce that open edition fine art prints from my series “The Mojave” are now available through Saatchi. They are available framed and unframed, and would make a delightful gift for the holidays or a wonderful addition to your personal photography collection at home or in the office. Proceeds from print sales will help me to continue the project and enable me to put together a proper book and a series of special limited edition prints later down the road.

Julian

A couple of months ago, I was commissioned by Los Angeles model/actor Julian Zambrano to photograph an important transformation — the first cutting of his long, beloved hair in years. We decided to celebrate the moment in an homage to Patrick Demarchelier’s beautiful photographs of Karlie Kloss’s famous haircut.

Los Angeles Skyline

I've been photographing a lot of living spaces lately -- and absolutely loving it! The last two weeks have taken me to sprawling mansions in Beverly Hills, historic Craftsman gems in Highland Park, and stunning lofts with skyline views in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

AVI ROSS GROUP

It's always a pleasure working with Avi Ross Group on their stunning home restoration projects. This beautiful historic Craftsman gem, tucked away in the Northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park, is finally finished and up for sale. Every property they sell comes with beautiful furniture that was hand-selected for the space so that you can move in to a perfectly restored home. You can check out their beautiful, hand-renovated properties on their website.

Somewhere Outside of Time

As a commercial photographer in Los Angeles, the reality of a contemporary society dominated by social media and a culture of cool is prevalent in my work and life in the city. "The Mojave” is a new, ongoing personal photo series exploring and documenting the Mojave Desert -- a region that seems to exist outside of time, largely untouched by contemporary society, existing only on its own terms.

The Rossi Hotel

Last week, I had the pleasure of being hired to photograph the newly renovated suites and grounds of The Rossi Hotel in Palm Springs, California. The hotel -- a boutique resort tucked away on a quiet street just a few blocks from the resort town's bustling downtown area -- was a gorgeous, relaxing paradise. Here are a few of my favorite images from my shoot.
